Cleveland Indians Charities
Cleveland Indians Charities will donate a portion of select ticket sales from the Cleveland Indians’ pre-season home opener against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday, March 6, to Hattie Larlham. This marks another effort of Cleveland Indians Charities to improve the lives of people with disabilities in what has been a long history of the Cleveland Indians supporting Hattie Larlham. In fact, this is the second consecutive year that the Indians will be donating a portion of the proceeds from a pre-season game to Hattie Larlham.
“We both take our responsibilities to make a positive impact very seriously,” Bob DiBiasio, vice president of public relations for the Cleveland Indians, said of the two organizations.
According to DiBiasio, the Indians first became involved with Hattie Larlham, in large part, because of one of his personal connections. DiBiasio maintains a close friendship with a family whose daughter is a resident at Hattie Larlham. “That’s how I became aware of the wonderful work of Hattie Larlham and then was able to bring the Cleveland Indians to the table,” he explained.
The spring training promotion that is in its second year began when Hattie Larlham Care Group Board President Mike Weinhardt approached the Indians with the idea of exploring a partnership that could extend beyond the confines of Northeast Ohio. “We have some wonderful supporters of Hattie Larlham who live in the Phoneix/Goodyear area, so we decided to take advantage of the Cleveland Indians’ new home in Arizona,” Weinhardt said.
As DiBiasio put it, the goal of the partnership is to “raise awareness, raise funds and keep people connected.”
Aside from the spring training promotion, DiBiasio is also a regular participant in Hattie Larlham’s annual golf outing. This year’s event will be held at Sugar Bush Golf Club in Garrettsville, Ohio on May 19.
Whether it be on the baseball diamond or on the links, the Cleveland Indians always find a way to step up to the plate and hit a grand slam for Hattie Larlham.
