If
you
visited
Hattie
Larlham
before
the Hope
At
Work capital
project,
you
may
remember
staircase
near
the
front
of
the
building,
opposite
the
former
main
entrance.
This
staircase
brought
staff
and
visitors
up
a
steep
hill,
shrouded
by
pine
trees.
Past
the
house
and
across
a
small
parking
lot
is
a
memorial
to
Mrs.
Hattie
Larlham,
who
passed
away
in
1996.
Plans
for
the Hope
At
Work capital
project
called
for
the
demolition
of
these
stairs
to
make
room
for
changes
to
the
building,
a
larger
bus
area
and
a
state-of-the-art
air
filtration
system.
This
made
getting
to
the
memorial
difficult.
On
August
6,
2009,
volunteers
from
Turner
Construction,
VIP,
O.K.
Brugmann
&
Sons
Concrete
and
Guys
Pizza
donated
time
and
talents
to
reconnect
the
Hattie
Larlham
facility
with
the
memorial
at
the
top
of
the
hill.
By
the
end
of
the
weekend,
a
new
landscaped,
concrete
path
replaced
the
staircase
that
was
removed
in
spring,
2007.
