Does Hattie Larlham work with a third-party to manage the donation process?

Can I drop off my car in person at one of Hattie Larlham’s offices?
No. We cannot accept vehicle drop-offs at any of our offices or locations. Instead, we will arrange to have your vehicle picked up and towed at no cost to you.
How soon will my vehicle be picked up after I donate it?
Normally, vehicles are picked up within 1-2 business days.
Can you explain more about the exact process?
Once your donation is accepted, a local towing company will arrange to pick up your vehicle. The tow driver will collect the vehicle's title and keys at the time of pickup. You will receive a towing receipt. After your vehicle is auctioned, you will receive an IRS Form 1098c indicating the sale amount of the vehicle. The minimum you can claim for a donated vehicle is $500. If your vehicle sells for $501 or greater, the exact amount will be listed on the IRS form 1098C.
How will the proceeds from my vehicle donation be used?
The proceeds generated from your vehicle will stay local and directly help create opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Ohio.
How much can I deduct on my taxes if I donate my vehicle to Hattie Larlham?
The minimum a donor can claim is $500 or the gross sale amount received at our auction, whichever is greater. This amount is documented on the IRS Form 1098c and forwarded to you within 30 days of the sale date. We recommend you consult with a tax professional on how to maximize your deduction, because every car donation and tax situation is unique.
How do I deduct a vehicle donation on my taxes?
Your vehicle donation is tax deductible. In general, the IRS limits the tax deduction to the gross proceeds from the sale of the car, truck or other vehicle. The minimum a donor can claim is $500 or the gross sale amount received at our auction, whichever is greater. This amount is documented on the IRS Form 1098c and sent to you. Charitable contributions must be itemized on Schedule A of Form 1040 to qualify. If the total deduction claimed on the tax return exceeds $500, Form 8283 Non-cash Charitable Contributions must also be completed and attached.
More information regarding responsibilities prior to making a car donation is available in the Donors Guide to Vehicle Donations (PDF) found in IRS Publication 4303.
