Education Opportunities

Hattie Larlham provides numerous educational opportunities including K-12 school services in our education wing. Capstone Academy, a program of the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County, collaborates with Hattie Larlham and local school districts to provide services for students ages 5-22 with profound multiple disabilities. The program offers individualized learning plans and instruction and attention to social, personal, and vocational needs in a multi-disciplinary approach. The curriculum incorporates content, concepts, and activities that foster cognitive, language, physical, and social-emotional development through the integration of multiple disciplines that allow students to experience personal and academic success.

Capstone Academy utilizes whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction, as well as assistive technology to set students up for success. All students follow a weekly schedule consisting of classroom-based learning in Math, Science, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, Music, Art, Adapted Physical Education (APE), Vocational Skills, and multi-sensory integration. Integrated learning environments incorporate specialists from different disciplines within the classroom. Related services; such as, speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, as well as necessary modifications to adaptive equipment, enhance the learning experience of each child. Students connect with the academic and vocational skills curriculum through a variety of therapeutic and technological interventions. The Capstone Academy team has created a program with a strong emphasis on technology to support student access to the curriculum, vocational skills, and communication programming for students with profound multiple disabilities.
